The Lampsilis

With a length of 25.1 m and a width of 6.7 m, the research ship from Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) is of the catamaran type and has a very low draft (0.9 m). This feature allows the ship to sample shallow riverside habitats as well as deep, strong current, zones of the seaway and lower river area. It can navigate in freshwater and brackish water on the St. Lawrence River and some of its tributaries, in the Saguenay, Lake Champlain and the Great Lakes. It will be possible to occasionally pass through saltwater. Lampsilis is equipped with a wet laboratory and a dry laboratory, probes that allow to measure water physical, chemical and optical properties, as well as samplers that provide water, sediments, plankton, invertebrates and fish samples. Lampsilis, which home port is the Trois-Rivières marina, is operational about 160 days a year, from May to October. Including the crew, Lampsilis has a capacity of up to 25 people inboard for a one day mission, and can comfortably accommodate 12 people for longer stays.
